Originally opened in 1913 as Chicago’s first one screen theater, formerly known as The Alvin Theatre.
The Shapiro Ballroom has been restored to showcase the charm and elegance of its 20-foot ceilings, vintage marquee sign, and open layout.
Our venue is located at 1612 West Chicago Avenue, near Noble Square and the Ukrainian Village – a sophisticated and versatile hidden gem that is perfect for any event.
When not hosting wedding receptions, social, corporate, or philanthropic events, the The Shapiro Ballroom is home to I Do Dance Studio, which specializes in wedding and partnered social dance instruction and I Do Events Chicagoland, which offers full service event coordination and design. Well-versed in style, entertainment, and hospitality, our staff will help you create the perfect memorable unique event.

The Shapiro Ballroom is available year-round for your event.
What Is Included In Our Venue Rental?
We have two large rooms with 20 foot ceilings and exposed brick!
Our front room is 4,000 square feet and the back room is 1,000 square feet.
We are able to flip the space to have your ceremony and wedding reception in our front room during your cocktail hour.
We have (9) 6ft x 30in tables, (10) highboys/cafe style tables (can be 2 different heights depending on your needs for your event), (2) 48in rounds, (2) bars and (150) chairs (Linens, overlays and cloth napkins available for a small dry cleaning fee).
These items can be used as a part of your event space rental or can be moved out entirely to bring in your own items.
We also have an inventory of other decorative items such as; votive holders, vases, frames, etc that you have access to for no additional cost.
Can I bring in my own food and alcohol?
We have a list of preferred caterers that offer discounts for events in our venue.
We’re happy to provide you with their information when you book the ballroom for your next event.
If you bring your own caterer, they need to provide their license and insurance for catering and liquor.
Does the venue have parking or valet service?
We can provide you with access to a parking lot and / or valet service for your event as needed.
Chicago Avenue has paid parking at $2 an hour and the neighborhood behind our space has free parking.
How late can the party go?
All of our 12 hour rentals start at 1pm and have music off at 12am. Special events can be scheduled at your preferred time. All rentals after 12am are subject to an additionally hourly fee.
You are able to extend your party day of or add it to your contract previously.
Can I hang stuff up?
Due to the height of our ceilings if you want to suspend anything such as drapery or chandeliers we do require it be from a licensed professional due to liability reasons.
What vendors can I work with?
You can bring in any vendors you would like!
We have a full list of preferred event vendors that give our clients a discount that you have access to.
We also have professional event coordinators on staff, I Do Events Chicagoland, to assist you in any way you need!
Can I have my ceremony here?
You can have your ceremony in our front room and move to the back for your cocktail hour as we flip your room into the reception of your dreams!
